GM subsidiary implements IM

Nasdaq-listed Compuware has signed a three-year contract with Shanghai General Motors (GM) to provide the company and its suppliers in Asia, North America, Europe and Latin America with messaging and integration.

Shanghai GM is a 50:50 joint venture between GM and Chinese passenger sedan manufacturer Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group. Shanghai GM produces and markets , engines and transmissions.

Compuware will manage the deal, which is for an unspecified amount, through its Covisint division. The company is a strategic IT for GM and Shanghai GM.

"Shanghai GM... has suppliers worldwide using multiple technologies, and we all need to securely communicate and transact business with each other," said X Q Zhang, CIO of Shanghai GM.

Covisint`s platform provides a combination of standards-based, any-to-any messaging, secure portal, application sharing and industry-specific software services to connect and integrate automotive trading .

Initially, Covisint will establish connectivity and supply-chain visibility across Shanghai GM and its supplier communities that support power train and vehicle assembly operations. The company`s platform also will provide local technical support and training to Shanghai GM.
