GN-BC01: Multifunctional space-saving wireless desktop router

Johannesburg, 23 Mar 2005

Gigabyte Technology and official South African distributor Rectron have introduced local users to the multi-featured wireless GN-BC01 AirCruiser G Desktop Router.

The GN-BC01 has all the features of a modern wireless router including a single port 10/100Mbps switch, a WiFi access point, firewall and ADSL router condensed on an average-sized PCI board.

Key features include:

* Full router functionality
* Single 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN port
* Interoperability with 54Mpbs (802.11g) and 11Mbps (802.11b) devices
* Built-in DHCP server and SmartSetup 3
* UPnP
* Dynamic DNS, URL blocking and VPN pass-through support
* 64/128-bit WEP encryption
* Full static and dynamic routing
* Hidden SSID setting
* Hardware reset button
* "Always on" connectivity

The AirCruiser G Desktop Router supports NAT to shield networked devices, VPN pass-through for secure Internet access to any network and operates in the 2.4GHz frequency band. It is visibly distinguishable from other wireless adapters by two Ethernet ports and the antenna connector.

"Dimension and form factor is where the GN-BC01 trumps the competition, and users can now benefit from the space-saving design on their desks, shelves or wherever wireless routers are traditionally deployed," says Michael Hann Gigabyte product manager at Rectron.

By offering functionality such as choice of security settings, protected access, URL blocking, support for VPN along with static and dynamic routing the AirCruiser G Desktop Router is ideal for users creating a first wireless network or SOHO environment.

Included with the GN-BC01 is a magnetic-based antenna fitted with a blue LED on the tip which is programmed to flash at different intervals to indicate speeds of wireless data transference, a shorter interval for higher rates and vice versa.

The AirCruiser G Desktop Router antenna broadcasts at a 3dBi gain, which is 1dBi higher than most other router antennas, further improving the wireless broadcast performance.
