Go online to get online

Johannesburg, 13 Jan 2004

Telkom promises a speedy self-help to get online. Its new online activation service advises clients to go online and help themselves.

Customers can order the TelkomInternet service, get a password, connect and "within minutes" start surfing the Web or send and receive e-mails.

The products available for immediate online activation are dial-up and ISDN 64k access. Customers can access these services by visiting www.telkomsa.net and clicking on the online activation link. Other TelkomInternet products will follow soon.

The online registration service automatically populates the TelkomInternet management system and immediately provides the with a username, password and e-mail address.

Customers can print or save the set-up instructions for later installation, or download a .ins file which, when run, will set up a dial-up connection to TelkomInternet, containing relevant subscriber information.

Customers have a choice of a direct debit or to be billed on their existing Telkom telephone account.

John Myers, senior manager of Telkom ISP Services, says online registration is "a...first step towards a self-care subscriber environment that will allow users to TelkomInternet services online without any call centre involvement".
