Google acquires IMB patents

PCWorld reports.

The move was confirmed by a Google spokesman, who did not immediately comment on why the company is interested in these particular patents and on how they may benefit Google products and its customers.

According to The Wall Street Journal, like other large technology firms, Google is frequently targeted with patent infringement lawsuits.

However, Google has only recently bolstered efforts to obtain substantial intellectual property in order to shield itself from potential infringement suits.

The newest batch of patents from IBM have only a handful of mobile applications, CNet writes.

Instead, they are rich in database intellectual property, including patent 6442548, titled "database interface for database unaware products", and patent 7831632, titled "method and system for reconstruction of object model in a relational database".
