
Google bullish about VOIP
Google's purchase of VOIP provider Global IP Solutions (GIPS) is the search giant's fourth VOIP and video-related acquisition in two years, says Channel Insider.
GIPS has inked deals with Cisco to integrate with its WebEx application for video conferencing, plus it will give Google the capability to offer video chat over Android-based smartphones.
GIPS made some significant Google-related moves this year, including one last week that had its technology set to be embedded on Motorola's Android phone.
China converges networks
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals the country will converge three networks that will cover all Chinese cities in three to five years' time, reports China Tech News.
The Chinese government plans to boost comprehensive multimedia communications services, including voice, data, and images.
Li Yizhong, director of MIIT, says the pilot programme for the convergence of three networks will be rolled out this month and put into operation in June 2010.
Blip TV raises $10.1m
Blip TV has raised $10.1 million in its third round of institutional funding led by investors Canaan Partners and Bain Capital Venture, states Mashable.
CEO Mike Hudack says Blip TV aims to bridge the gap between the computer and the television and bring quality online content everywhere.
Along with services like YouTube, Blip TV was one of the earliest places that users could upload their own content.
