Google buys document management firm

Texas Tech Pulse states.

The company, headed by Alan Masarek, revealed the acquisition on the firm's blog, saying it will be combining its products with Google's software.

No other details of the acquisition were released. Quickoffice was venture-backed by Access Industries, Advantage Capital Partners, Mayfield, Shea Ventures and Shepherd Ventures.

Quickoffice started in the office space early, at first providing the Symbian platform with the ability to view and eventually edit Office documents from a user's smartphone; the company now offers popular products for both Google Android and iOS devices, The Inquisitr says.

While Google Docs originally started as a basic office editor, Google has since added new templates, additional Web fonts and other options that have brought the program more in line with Microsoft Office.

Google also recently added a research tool, which takes advantage of Google's search know-how.
