confirmed it has opened applications for Google+'s business test program.
This comes despite a recent statement by the company that it would hold off on creating Google+ accounts, as the focus was on individual users, and that business support was planned to be released “in the next few months”.
“We are discouraging businesses from using regular profiles to connect with Google+ users. Our policy team will actively work with profile owners to shut down non-user profiles,” Christian Oestlien, group product manager at Google, said in the statement.
However, Google has changed its mind on the matter, given intense widespread interest.
“Thousands upon thousands of businesses” have shown an interest, and it is this that has got Google “very focused on accelerating... business plans”, says Oestlien.
“Our team will focus next week on selecting a diverse set of business partners for the test period,” stated Oestlien. “We will be communicating with these partners next week, and will let the world know who they are soon thereafter.”
