SMS still tops in Asia Pacific

Teleclick.ca reports that SMS is still the most popular service among mobile phone users in Asia Pacific, despite the increased availability of mobile e-mail and multimedia messaging for mobile phones.

A recent IDC survey of over 4 000 urban users in Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan suggests that less than 10% of users are consistently using advanced messaging and other multimedia features on their cellphones.

It reached the conclusion that "despite the proliferation of content-rich mobile data services, the adoption of advanced services such as mobile phone payment, online mobile gaming and mobile e-mail have yet to reach noteworthy levels of usage".

Princeton library offers messaging help

The Princeton University Library is offering a new way to ask reference questions - through instant messaging.

Students, faculty and staff can use their AOL, Yahoo, MSN or ICQ accounts for live reference assistance by adding "LIBCHATPUL" to their buddy lists.

A librarian will respond to the chat service during office hours.
