Google unveils business app store

Google is bringing the app store concept to business cloud computing, giving software developers a storefront for Google Apps customers, writes CNET News.

The Google Apps Marketplace will allow Google Apps users to purchase third-party applications to run atop the Google Apps suite, says Vic Gundotra, vice-president of engineering for Google.

Developers will have to pay a one-time $100 fee to list their applications in the store, and Google will get a 20% cut of all applications sold through the store, he adds.

Apple updates Safari browser

Apple and Mozilla have both updated their browsers with a variety of and stability patches, reports Computing.co.uk.

Safari 4.0.5 fixes 16 security holes in the browser, the bulk of which are in the Webkit rendering engine, which is also used by Google's Chrome browser.

The Windows version of the browser also includes updates for the ColorSync and ImageIO frameworks to stop attacks using maliciously crafted TIFF or BMP images.

BlackBerry readies Twitter app

The official BlackBerry Twitter app will be released on BlackBerry App World in the coming weeks, states PC World.

RIM's senior carrier relationship manager, Michael Momsen, says the Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones app will be unveiled "in the next few weeks".

One of the most anticipated features of the app is push notifications for direct messages. These will tie into the current BlackBerry notifications on the home screen.
