Total IT expenditure in government and parastatals is estimated at R10.2 billion this fiscal year, with growth of 12% to 15% expected in the 2002/2003, says Forge Ahead BMI-T joint-MD Brian Nielson.
Nielson, speaking at the launch of the ICT in Government Handbook for 2002/3 this morning, said the research that went into the handbook indicated that the highest IT spend in the past year was seen within the SA Police Services, SA Revenue Service, National Treasury, Department of Justice, Department of Constitutional Development, Department of Home Affairs, and the provincial governments of Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
The highest proportion of IT spend allocated to empowerment companies was within the Departments of Communications and Information Services, Health and Public Enterprises.
The Forge Ahead BMI-T ICT in Government Handbook, produced in partnership with the State IT Agency (SITA), highlights the ICT achievements, challenges and expenditure within the SA government. It also profiles national, provincial and local government departments and parastatals. The handbook is backed up by an online database.
