The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) plans to introduce an online filing system to allow the online payment of employers` monthly contributions and submission of documents.
The Department of Labour acting UIF commissioner, Boas Seruwe, made the announcement last week.
The system, termed U-Filing, will be accessible free, through the Department of Labour Web site from 1 April. It will be available to more than 90 000 domestic and commercial employers registered with the UIF.
"The new system promises to remove the risks and hassles of manual declarations, which entails employers providing information on the details of all employees regardless of their earning to the Unemployment Insurance Commissioner," says Mokgadi Pela, spokesperson for the Department of Labour.
There are more than seven million workers in both the domestic and commercial field that are registered with the UIF, he said.
"Employers can submit declarations of their employees via the Internet, and can make secure payments online. This payment mechanism will prevent incorrect payment referencing. Upon payment, the employer will be able to receive confirmation of receipt of their contribution," says Pela.
Last year, the Department of Labour unveiled the electronic fund transfer project to help unemployed people access their money directly from their Mzansi bank accounts.
