Greenwich Mean Time, the year 2000 software developer, has appointed Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) as its second southern African distributor.
Alison Joy, MD and vice president of Greenwich Mean Time Africa, extended the company's existing distribution infrastructure to SDD based on its strong nationwide channel, its distribution points and its export facilities throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
The appointment was welcomed by Anton Herbst, General Manager, Software, at SDD. He says the product suite is not just another line item, but a powerful tool that will assist resellers in providing a valuable added service to their customers.
"We are implementing Check 2000 internally to ensure that we will be ready for the new millennium and we're encouraging resellers to do the same," says Herbst. "Check 2000 - particularly the latest Client Server version - will be highlighted at our roadshows and in other promotional campaigns."
Herbst says SDD sees Check 2000 as a product suite that unlocks enormous potential for resellers. "Securing this distribution opportunity allows us to add a high degree of value to our customers. We were particularly keen to distribute it because it is so well regarded internationally and is directly supported by Greenwich Mean Time in South Africa," he adds.
Check 2000 can either be sold directly to end users or used as a tool by IT consultants.
"It provides a methodology to advise clients on what they need to do to be ready for 2000," says Joy. "This may include hardware upgrades, operating system enhancements, software upgrades or replacement, and consulting on how to bring data and data exchange into accurate year 2000 format."
She adds that Greenwich Mean Time is impressed with the effort SDD puts into promoting its products. "They not only advertise and run extensive campaigns to advise the channel on what products are available, they also have a channel education programme. This is particularly important in the year 2000 business."
SDD has appointed Michelle Manushewitz as product manager for the Check 2000 suite of software and she will be the main contact person for SDD's customer base.
Check 2000 is available in single user and client server versions. It addresses all five layers of the year 2000 problem, namely hardware, operating systems, software programs, data and data exchange. It is also distributed in South Africa by Datatec.
