Grintek Antennas has presented the 10 000th production model of its indoor dual-band diplexer to MTN as an acknowledgement of the network operator's support for local industry.
Speaking at the presentation, Gavin Swanepoel, CEO of Grintek TCI, said Grintek had been associated with MTN since its launch in 1994.
"Grintek is proud to have been associated from the outset, with MTN's roll-out of sites both in SA and across the continent. Our diplexers are already in use in all of MTN's sites in Nigeria," he said.
Grintek is committed to providing infrastructure and technical support to a number of projects in Africa, including Botswana, Kenya and Nigeria.
"We believe technology can make an important contribution towards bridging the digital divide and improving the quality of life of people on the continent. This is in line with the objectives of the New Partnership for African Development (Nepad)," says Swanepoel.
Diplexers combine the two frequency bands in a dual-band site, halving the number of feeder cables required. Advantages of doing this include simpler, faster installations, weight reduction, reduced wind loading, and improved lightning protection.
