Telecommunications test and measurement company, Acterna, has consolidated its Southern African sales and distribution channel with the appointment of Grintek Telecom as sole representative.
Says Terry Sanderson, business unit manager for measurement solutions at Grintek: "Originally, the distribution of Acterna products in the region was shared by two different companies. However, the merger last year of TTC, for which Grintek was a distributor for the last 10 years, and Wavetek Wandel Goltermann (WWG) to form Acterna, meant that a number of competing product lines between the two companies were eliminated. It therefore made more sense to appoint a single distributor.
"For Grintek Telecom, this provides us with the opportunity to expand our existing marketshare for Acterna test and measurement equipment. These include SDH analysers, internetworking analysers, ATM frame relay analysers, data communication test sets and centralised test solutions, as well as high-speed communications and enterprise networking systems."
Says Camille Abusaba, Director of Sales for Middle East and Africa for Acterna: "Acterna believes that it is of strategic importance to maintain a strong presence in SA as the market continues to grow, and it is critical to our success throughout Africa. For several years, Grintek has been one of our top distributors, demonstrating their commitment to Acterna and the local market by building a strong support organisation and local infrastructure."
Adds Sanderson: "Acterna spent more than $150 million dollars on research and development in the last 12 months, about 15% of its turnover, and the result is a number of new products being brought to market. Grintek is now able to leverage the new technology in engineering better solutions for customers."
