Grintek Telecom supplies Hypercom card payment terminals to First National Bank

Johannesburg, 30 May 2003

The eCommerce division of Grintek Telecom, the information and communications technology (ICT) specialist, has established itself firmly in the secure transaction processing market in SA, with the recent supply and installation of Hypercom ICE 5500 Card Payment Terminals, with related networking and terminal management systems, to First National Bank (FNB), a division of First Rand Bank Ltd.

"The eCommerce division is active in the electronic funds transfer space, representing Hypercom Corporation and Cyberline in SA. Hypercom, winner of the prestigious Visa Chip Vendor of the Year Award for 2003, supplies secure Card Payment Terminals and related services and systems," says Phumlani Moholi, managing director of Grintek Telecom.

"This implementation offers FNB retail merchants fast, secure transactions, lower cost of ownership and a broad product range to select from," comments Fred Malan, head of FNB's Acquiring Delivery Channel division.

"In addition, there are several 'softer' benefits arising from the installation of the Hypercom secure Card Payment Terminals, such as a revised workflow system, reduced customer service calls and improved customer satisfaction in terms of ease-of-use and transaction speed," Malan adds.

"Phase one of the implementation, which is now complete, included implementing the Hypercom ICE IEN network, terminal management system and Hot Card file downloading system; as well as the developing, testing and certifying the standard EMV chip and Magnetic Card Credit and Debit card terminal application software.

According to Moholi, during phase one of the Hypercom ICE 5500 implementation, Grintek Telecom assisted FNB in obtaining the required EMV Level 2 and Visa Network certification, which was also completed in a record time of nine months.

"FNB selected Grintek Telecom as they are the sole distributor of Hypercom in SA, and Hypercom is known widely as one of the top five point-of-sale terminal vendors with exceptional EMV skill and knowledge internationally," Malan points out.

"Furthermore, Grintek Telecom has an excellent industry reputation in terms of technical resources, support and established development infrastructure.

"Grintek Telecom's expertise, and strong integration and engineering skills, combined in this instance with best-of-breed products such as those sold by Hypercom, allow us to add substantial value to the solutions we offer. We look forward to adding such value to FNB during this and future implementations," concludes Moholi.
