Grolsch brews up a storm with Essbase

Johannesburg, 15 May 1998

Grolsch, the Dutch brewer, has selected Arbor Essbase to provide strategic business information for senior managers throughout its multinational operations. Providing flexibility in reporting, proactive delivery of analysis to managers, and moving away from paper delivery to online ad hoc queries were Grolsch`s main objectives for information delivery. The company had been using an Oracle database for data collection and Lotus 1-2-3 for presentation and aggregation. But Grolsch needed daily and weekly reports with much greater levels of detail to replace the outdated monthly high-level system. The Arbor Essbase solution provides sales analysis and financial contribution analysis. The application gives simple user access to data at all levels of the business without limitation, presenting information as ad hoc reports, board level briefings and graphical "publishing quality" output. "We looked at several different products, but decided that Arbor Essbase would provide Grolsch with the most effective system," says Hans Alferink, reporting and control manager for Grolsch. "Arbor Essbase has a proven technology and that, together with the power and functionality of the database, has the ability to carry out rapid application development. Arbor`s network of third-party tools, such as Lotus, Excel and Wired for OLAP, helped sway our decision." Arbor Essbase is represented in South Africa by The IBD Group.
