Gryphon Asset Management has outsourced its network management to Dimension Data Networking, following a successful design and implementation of a managed desktop networking environment.
Dimension Data Networking Western Cape successfully completed the infrastructure design and implementation ensuring world class mission critical IT systems for Gryphon Asset Management.
Gryphon`s core competence lies in financial services - protecting and growing the financial wealth of its clients - not in IT, which is why they chose to outsource their IT function.
Claude van Cuyck, an investment professional at Gryphon Asset Management, says Dimension Data Networking Western Cape was our first choice because of their vast and advanced level of expertise.
"Dimension Data Networking also has a proven track record in IT rollouts in the financial sector, especially with regards to start up asset management companies, like Gryphon at the time. In our IT intensive environment it was imperative for us to appoint an organisation with the necessary skills and experience," he says.
"The Dimension Data Managed Online (MON) service is definitely a product differentiator," says van Cuyck. "Virtually monitoring our network by means of MON is a huge competitive advantage, not only in helping to maintain stability on the network but also in minimising costly downtime."
The MON service proactively monitors Gryphon`s networking equipment. Should a fault occur, it would be responded to with the least delay.
Desktop management at Gryphon Financial Services enables automated software deployment with knowledge embedded in technology. The application portfolio was engineered to guarantee that the configuration and installation on each desktop is identical and can be maintained as such.
The front end application portfolio includes MS Office, Limon, MS Outlook, ABSA Cash Point, Workflow, I-Net Bridge, I-Net Classic, Barra Risk Management, BFA McGregor and SMACSoft and the back-end portfolio includes MS SQL Server, MS Exchange Server, MS Systems Management Server and MS Proxy Server.
Remote access is provided through Cisco Remote Access Technology and Microsoft Terminal Server is used to make the full application portfolio available to end-users at home.
The complete computing facility was based on the Cisco Compaq Microsoft Integration model and ranges from a switch campus network computer room, to air-conditioning, and CAT 5 cabling.
The newly acquired Unit Trusts division was integrated into Gryphon Asset Management`s network and included the expansion of the network with additional desktops.
Dimension Data Networking de-commissioned, relocated and re-commissioned this network a year later with Gryphon Asset Management`s move to new premises in Durbanville. The relocation was a complete success with absolutely no system outages or delays.
Van Cuyck, confident in DDN Western Cape`s ability, says: "We will continue to outsource as much of our IT function as possible to Dimension Data Networking Western Cape.
"Information technology is not Gryphon`s core competence and we are confident with Dimension Data Networking on the job," he concludes.
