Half of UK companies adopt cloud

IT ProPortal.

According to an article on IT ProPortal, the CIF survey found that 49% of UK businesses were using cloud computing services within their organisation.

UK businesses also seem to be quite happy with cloud services with 94% of cloud adopters stating that they were fully satisfied with the service they were getting. Cloud users are also planning to extend cloud computing capabilities to other parts of their operations.

SMEs, as opposed to the larger organisations, are now recognising the benefits of employing cloud computing, as the survey revealed that organisations with under 20 employees placed greater value on flexibility (63%), says InfoTech.

“The benefits of the cloud have been known for some time, not least its rapid deployment, reliability, scalability and pay-as-you-go financial model,” the report states.

“What appears to be happening in the market is that this message, for so long evangelised by vendors and IT channel alike, is being heard, and acted on, by organisations seeking to expand or change their IT capability in support of their organisational performance.”

Meanwhile, ByteStart.co.uk states that many people are predicting that 2011 will be the year that cloud computing goes mainstream.

A key technology trend of the past few years, analyst firm Gartner has now predicted that cloud computing will be one of the top 10 strategic technologies in 2011.
