Automated warehousing is not the result of using any single technology, such as radio frequency identification (RFID), says the Harmonic Group.
With an abundance of technology available, organisations should be aware that holistic solutions are far more effective in optimising resources through warehouse automation to ensure customer satisfaction, cost control and the smooth running of sales and operations, explains Barry Baetu, Harmonic MD.
To this end, Baetu says Harmonic has developed an e-warehouse management system to meet the needs of a company`s warehousing requirements.
"In developing e-Warehouse we re-engineered warehouse operations, bringing them to new levels of efficiency with virtually paperless item tracking, timely order fulfilment, accurate validation of all activities and accurate inventory control," he says.
According to Baetu, e-Warehouse uses a combination of barcoding and RFID technology to track product movement, staff activities, delivery systems and a wide range of warehouse activities.
The e-Warehouse system is designed to integrate with financial software systems and enterprise resource planning packages, Baetu adds.
