Mobile computing and barcoding company Harmonic Group has appointed a distributor in Kenya as part of its strategy to promote acceptance of barcode scanning and become the preferred supplier of barcode technology in Africa.
Although radio frequency identification (RFID) tag producers are predicting the demise of the barcode, Barry Baetu, Harmonic MD, points out that barcode scanning is still in its infancy in Africa.
Baetu says by appointing Nairobi-based Impax Business Solutions as a distributor, Harmonic hopes to enter the market early to grow market share. He says finding the right distributors is a critical factor in implementing this growth strategy.
John Thuo, Impax MD, says his company is able to offer customers a combination of products, having incorporated the Harmonic asset management, logistics and warehousing solutions, as well as barcoding offerings.
"These are especially exciting times for us since our East African customers are increasingly demanding access control and biometrics solutions, as well as wireless communication and connectivity," says Thuo.
