Decision Inc. will be examining how business leaders can operationalise their business intelligence (BI) and link analytics to decision-making at the 10th annual ITWeb BI Summit, in Midrand. The two-day summit began yesterday.
Nick Bell, CEO of Decision Inc., and Tobie Otto, senior consultant at the SAP Centre of Excellence for ArcelorMittal South Africa, will discuss the journey of embedding analytics into operations at one of the world's leading steel and mining companies - ArcelorMittal South Africa. The ArcelorMittal Group operates in 60 countries and employs 232 000 people globally.
"The summit will provide delegates with an exclusive opportunity to see how South African business visionaries are turning their insights into profits. For Decision Inc., we want to showcase how improved decision-making is possible when there is collaboration between business, IT and analytics teams," says Bell.
In 2011, ArcelorMittal South Africa started on its BI journey after realising it needed to increase efficiencies and drive cost savings. Bell and Otto will share the path taken in implementing analytics across the organisation to improve decision-making capacity and capability.
"In six months, ArcelorMittal South Africa created more than 10 analytic solutions across HR, Treasury, Accounts, Procurement, Logistics, and Plant Maintenance. In Procurement alone, it saved R50 million in one year by identifying and analysing contract spend. Through this, we will show delegates how the business benefits of harnessing the power of analytics cannot be ignored," adds Bell.
The process of embedding analytics into the organisation can be challenging; for transformation to occur, the organisation needs to value information and the executives need to use the information to drive performance. Understanding the value of insight provided is key to enabling BI initiatives to be adopted widely.
The ITWeb BI Summit highlights the latest trends, local and international case studies across a range of vertical sectors, offers invaluable advice on best practices and tools, and hosts interactive panel discussions and informative workshops.
