Harvey World Travel (HWT), one of the largest travel retail agencies in southern Africa, has appointed GijimaAst as its primary outsource partner for three years. The contract value is R 22m.
Harvey World Travel Southern Africa`s shareholders consist of Renfin and Harvey World Travel based in Australia.
HWT required a primary outsourcing partner that could migrate its business off the current infrastructure supplied by Galileo. "We were looking for a true partner that would sincerely act as the extended IT department of Harvey, and deploy our "Harvey Wallbanger Project". Through GijimaAst we are getting the best possible overall solution," explains Andrew Tully, IT Manager of HWT SA.
"We have found this in GijimaAst, who clearly stood out in their innovation to the extent that GijimaAst proposed six design solutions whilst vendors generally only proposed one," adds Tulley. "That is what we call a partner."
HWT has over 650 users in 122 branches that required migration to their new Hydra technology with wireless Wise terminals running in terminal services Mode. In addition, GijimaAst will be involved in the deployment and support of Sapilla`s Office ware suite and e-mail running on Merakmail.
HWT backbone requirements were to connect 122 branches with the best performance but also to keep operation costs down. With this in mind, GijimaAst looked at all possible backbone technologies, including the more traditional and newer access methods available. A network was built using iBurst wireless and ADSL access into the GijimaAst VPN. This backbone enables high-speed network connectivity to the Hosting centre in Johannesburg.
Each branch will use the new Cisco ISR routers offering all networking requirement on a single platform. Apart from normal routing, the router will also provide security, integrated switching and the ability to later provide voice functionality at each branch.
All applications, Active Directory, Terminal Services Cluster and mail severs will be hosted at GijimaAst`s hosting site. This site also provides for Internet access, network security and network monitoring.
