Hasbro offers new gaming experience
App Advice writes.
Dubbed the “zAPPed” series, these new variants mix analogue and digital gameplay methods for another twist on some long-lived classics.
Demonstrated at the 2012 Toy Fair, the zAPPed editions of The Game of Life, Battleship, and Monopoly combine a traditional game board, an iDevice, plus an iOS app and special game pieces that utilise technology licensed fromVolumique.
According to Tech Shout, the company will be introducing iOS apps for each of these offerings. The Game of Life zAPPed, which has already been released, can be played with the assistance of its corresponding app. This application brings more than 100 funny clips from America's Funniest Videos to the iPad.
Once the app is downloaded, users can place the Apple slate on the game board to take advantage of the new tech aspect. The software also features the virtual spinner.
With Monopoly zAPPed - available June 2012 - an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch will be turned into a banking unit and will add and subtract money from virtual accounts with a simple tap of a special bank card on the iOS device. Plus, players will see the Chance and Community Chest cards come to life through fun and challenging virtual mini-games as the players work their way towards becoming a property mogul, Market Watch notes.
In the Battleship zAPPed - available September 2012 - game players, inspired by the "Battleship" feature film from Universal Pictures, use their iPad screen as the playing surface when waging epic battles by executing strategic manoeuvres, launching devastating missile attacks and initiating lethal air strikes. Once ship pawns are placed on the screen, the iPad will automatically recognise which pawns are in play and when they are moved.
