HCL nets Consumers Energy contract
data centre workers to focus on projects that directly impact its bottom line, Computerworld reports.
Most of the company's IT support tasks are being shifted to IT services provider HCL America, a Sunnyvale, California-based subsidiary of India's HCL Technologies.
Mamatha Chamarthi, VP and CIO at the Jackson, Michigan-based utility, said internal staffers should now have more time to work on projects designed to help the company meet its goal of enabling employees and customers to access "any content, from any device, anywhere, anytime".
The companies entered into an agreement with the objective of improving operational excellence through advanced technological operations and processes and to provide significant benefits to the mid-Michigan and Jackson economies, Business Process Outsourcing notes.
The agreement will significantly increase Michigan's IT capacity, while improving employment prospects for IT graduates from Michigan universities and colleges. It will also serve as a leading example of Michigan's new, successful economic policies.
This agreement is the result of Consumers Energy's leadership's vision to embark on a game-changing plan to move its IT department from a technology support role to technology innovators - and will utilise HCL's expertise through its matured processes and highly qualified employees.
