HemoCue and KeyTools in strategic partnership

Johannesburg, 17 Apr 2002

KeyTools today announced that KeyTech, a member of the KeyTools Group of companies, has created mobile integration software for the HemoCue B-Glucose and Haemoglobin analysers.

HemoCue B-Glucose and Haemoglobin analysers are mobile devices employed in South African and other clinics and hospitals for the purpose of quickly and accurately measuring glucose and haemoglobin values in human blood. This data needs to be extracted from the units for statistical and billing purposes. KeyTech provided the Palm OS compliant software to extract this data to the PDA with synchronization functionality. Users can now use an inexpensive and mobile device to download information from the units and synchronize the PDA, thus facilitating the direct sending of data to laboratories.

"This application is one of the many that will emerge in the medical field over the coming months. The utilisation of the capabilities of PDAs is still in its infancy," commented Richard Chalk, CEO of KeyTools. "We are delighted to be associated with these exciting new developments and to be one of the major worldwide software enablers for PALM O/S and Windows CE applications."

HemoCue

HemoCue, Inc. offers medical diagnostic products for point-of-care testing. The fundamental concept behind the HemoCue products is to perform common blood tests near the patient with the same accuracy and precision as a central clinical laboratory.

The HemoCue B-Haemoglobin system was introduced in the early 1980s. HemoCue, Inc., a subsidiary of HemoCue AB, was founded in the United States in 1989. The HemoCue B-Glucose system was introduced on a worldwide basis in the beginning of the 1990s. Since the introduction, over 140,000 B-Haemoglobin and B-Glucose instruments have been installed globally.

In December 1999, HemoCue was acquired by EQT (www.eqt.se). The HemoCue Plasma/Low Haemoglobin Analyser was introduced in 2000.

The HemoCue product line is sold in more than 75 countries through a highly effective organization consisting of independent distributor partners and subsidiaries. HemoCue is a company that has developed a keen sensitivity for the needs of customers in primary health care settings and a focus on preventative health care opportunities. Given current global trends in these areas, EQT products will continue to provide valuable opportunities on a worldwide basis for the foreseeable future.
