Tarsus Technologies has announced the immediate availability of IBM`s xSeries 226 eServer, aimed squarely at the SME space. The server combines many high-end features normally associated with servers destined for the corporate space, but at a price smaller companies can afford.
"Price/performance is a massive focus area for IBM. With the release of this unit, performance benefits like support for 64-bit extensions through the combination of Intel`s Xeon processors, Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) and a memory capacity of 16GB of DDR2 RAM, is offered at a price designed to appeal to the small and mid-size business space," says Brett Walter, IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies.
"The focus on 64-bit enablement doesn`t end there. The xSeries 226 also includes high-speed I/O enhancements like PCI-Express to ensure that 64-bit applications can easily cope with workload," Walter continues.
"The xSeries 226 offers buyers cost-effective, high-performance and secure storage functionality," Walter says.
"As a standard feature with the x226, IBM has included its ServeRAID-7e tool. This provides both RAID level 0 and 1 redundancy to users that either want to benefit from an increase in performance, or the mirroring of data between two hard disks for 100% redundancy. The x226 also comes with support for IBM`s new simple-swap Serial ATA drives, ensuring the storage capacities can be easily increased and faulty drives replaced, without having to open the server."
In terms of reducing the total cost of ownership, IBM has also done its homework. The x226 includes high-end management and diagnostic features like IBM Director, Diagnostic LEDs, Automatic server restart, Alert Standard Format 2.0 and ServerGuide. Companies also have optional features like IBM`s Remote Supervisor Adapter II and Remote Deployment Manager to choose from. These features enable remote management and easy administration, two pieces of functionality that are integral to growing organisations, with limited IT budgets.
"The IBM x226 is an excellent option for SMEs that require cost-effective, yet high-performance functionality and the ability to grow their computing power as and when the business requires it. Taking into account the TCO features IBM has integrated into this server, companies can rest assured that they`re getting the best possible offering for the money they are paying," Walter concludes.
