The Intelligent Serial Interface (ISI) 600-Series card, available from QDD, provides a fast 4/8 serial port interface for remote access servers and multi-user hosts. The ISI is ideal for dial-in/dial-out, server-based remote access or to host terminals or printers for point-of-sale, data collection and industrial applications.
The ISI processor off-loads host CPU communication functions providing optimum performance and preventing bottlenecks. Since all ports share the same IRQ, the server is not overloaded with IRQ assignments for the ISI card. QDD product manager Johan Groenewald says with built-in speed and data handling efficiencies, the ISI can keep pace with today`s 56K modems, ISDN modems, printers, terminals and X terminals.
"The card is designed to work with a number of network and multi-user operating systems. The ISI comes with remote access and multi-user drivers for Windows 95/ Windows 98, Windows NT, Citrix WinFrame/ Metaframe, SCO Open Server, Novell NetWare, NetWare Connect, Linux and Multi-Tech RASExpress," he adds. Groenewald concludes the ISI, when combined with any Multi-Tech modem or ISDN terminal adapter, provides high-speed dial-in/dial-out server-based remote access.
