Higher information availability, lower cost with new IBM server from Tarsus

Johannesburg, 26 Sep 2002

New from the IBM stable, the xSeries 335 Server is now available to the local market through Tarsus Technologies, the value-add distribution arm of MB Technologies. This highly manageable, high-performance two-way SMP (symmetrical multi-processor) server is designed to heighten information availability and lower cost of ownership.

"The x335 is engineered to streamline escalating Web application environments into operations as sleek as its own power-packed chassis," says IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies, Drikus van der Walt. "Inside its ultra-dense 1U package, the x335 packs high performing Intel Xeon processors and the latest in system management for uncompromising power and control."

The server allows for space saving in crowded data centres and the two-way Intel Xeon processor provides high processing performance for improved productivity in organisations.

Two PCI-X 64-bit/100MHz slots offering expandability and the capability to increase input/output bandwidth also enhance performance and productivity. Integrated RAID 1 boost system availability and data protection by supporting hard-drive mirroring without the need for a PCI slot.

"The x335 features comprehensive systems management tools in IBM Director and IBM Director Extensions, which assist in increasing uptime, reducing costs and also improving productivity with advanced server management capabilities," says Van der Walt. "In addition, the Remote Deployment Manager enables fast, easy network deployment of multiple servers at once."

The two new models in the IBM xSeries range are the 2.0 and 2.4GHz TopSeller models, which offer 40GB of storage.
