Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a leading aerospace and defence technology company, will deploy IFS Applications across its enterprise consisting of 17 sites with more than 3 000 users.
The first phase of implementation covering its corporate office, aircraft division and helicopter division in Bangalore is expected to be completed by July 2005, followed by its 14 remaining divisions. The contract was signed in July.
HAL will use an IFS solution covering engineering, MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul), manufacturing, materials management, human resource management, financial management, project management, workforce management, quality management, document management, supply chain management, and corporate performance management.
With the IFS solution, HAL will consolidate a number of separate systems into a single integrated system. This will enable HAL to enhance productivity and profitability through adoption of best business practices across the organisation, resulting in optimised project management, improved manufacturing planning, reductions in inventory, and improved turnaround times of aircraft. In addition, HAL will be able to analyse up-to-the-minute business information to continuously improve performance and customer satisfaction.
NR Mohanty, Chairman of HAL, said: "The implementation of IFS Applications is aimed at improving HAL`s profitability by substantially reducing inventory, decreasing delivery cycle times, reducing operational costs and improving manpower productivity."
Dr Chandan Chowdhury, CEO of IFS India, said: "By implementing IFS Applications at HAL, IFS India can demonstrate to other Indian businesses how component-based business applications can help them achieve significant business benefits through the easy-to-use, flexible and open architecture of IFS technology.
BAeHAL Software Limited (a joint venture of HAL and BAE SYSTEMS) and IFS India, partners in offering IFS Applications to the Indian aerospace and defence market, will jointly execute the implementation.
IFS Defence in the UK will supply its global defence expertise to support this customer account, as well as to support the growth of IFS`s defence business across India. The Indian defence industry will benefit from the technical advances made by IFS Defence on its various worldwide development programmes.
With aerospace and defence being one of IFS`s targeted market segments, IFS Applications includes advanced standard functionality that meets the demanding requirements of defence manufacturers. IFS`s fully integrated project tracking and product data management (PDM) capabilities, when combined with other IFS Applications components, make it easier to operate while managing the design, manufacture and ongoing spare parts logistics and maintenance support of complex products throughout the product lifecycle.
IFS customers within aerospace and defence include the British, French, Norwegian, Greek and South African defence organisations, as well as the Eurofighter consortium. Commercial MRO shops and operators include Finnair, Bristow Helicopters, Aero-Dienst GmbH, Hawker Pacific and Jet Turbine Services. In addition, IFS provides solutions to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, BAE SYSTEMS, Saab Aerosystems, and GE Aircraft Engines.
