HMRC unveils record keeping apps
PC Advisor reports.
The apps have been built by independent developers and the Business Application Software Developer Association (BASDA), after consultation with HMRC.
HMRC has not tested the apps it lists as simple record-keeping applications for mobile devices, and does not guarantee their security, ZDNet writes.
However, it says: "HMRC worked with the Business Application Software Developer Association and independent developers to facilitate the development of the record-keeping apps."
The list is not exhaustive and will be expanded as new apps emerge. At the moment, there are three apps for Apple's iOS, three for Google Android, one for Windows Phone, and a Web-based app that works via a browser. There isn't a RIM BlackBerry app.
Fresh Business Thinking says the apps, which are mostly free, complement existing HMRC record-keeping guidance and tools. They aim to help small businesses and the self-employed who are below the VAT threshold - £77 000 - maintain good records and estimate what their tax liability might be.
“These apps help take forward our commitment to tax transparency in a very direct and practical way," David Gauke, exchequer secretary, said.
