Home-grown Pastel Evolution takes on imported ERPs with new version

Johannesburg, 05 Aug 2010

Softline Pastel's latest release of its mid-market enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, Pastel Evolution, includes some major enhancements.

Evolution 6.5 is billed as the most significant release since its launch in 2003 and presents a real challenge to its 'imported' competitors.

Two new modules have been added to the ERP suite.

“Branch Accounting is probably the most exciting addition to Evolution 6.5,” says Steven Cohen, managing director of Pastel Accounting. “It's been designed specifically for companies with more than just an HQ. Simply, it introduces bi-directional synchronisation and consolidation of data, which means that information is shared, consolidated and saved on both the centralised system at head office as well as at branch level.”

Two-way data streaming comes with many benefits, including the ongoing ability to transact at a local level even if the ADSL lines or virtual private network goes down. Also, any potential loss of data due to fire, theft, etc can be kept at a minimum because of the regular consolidation and replication of information.

The other addition to Pastel Evolution is Retail Point of Sale, which offers a fully integrated end-to-end retail management solution. “We anticipate that our new POS application will have significant up-take in the mid-sized retail sector,” say Cohen. “It's an easy to use, robust, keyboard driven application that generates sales orders, invoices and credit notes from a single simple interface.”

Pastel Evolution 6.5 will be available from September 2010.

Because Evolution is a locally developed ERP solution, Softline Pastel has always offered program customisation with a fast turnaround. Cohen says the result is an overwhelming demand for the service which Pastel has addressed with the creation of a second R&D team of programmers based in India. “Additional development capacity means that Pastel Evolution can still guarantee rapid implementation of a customised ERP package in rand-based competitive prices.”

In the seven years since Pastel Evolution was launched, it's attracted over 6 000 medium to large sized businesses from 52 countries.

Cohen concludes: “Overall, Evolution 6.5 won't disappoint! It's the perfect solution for a larger business that has outgrown its standard accounting software and is looking for more insight and control over its affairs.”
