Symantec has released endpoint security as a hosted service, offering comprehensive security for businesses, without the need for additional capital expenditure or additional staffing.
Announced today at the company's Vision 2010 event in Barcelona, the cloud-based service will allow users to protect their laptops, desktops, and file servers from an exponentially growing number of threats.
Rowan Trollope, senior VP of Symantec Hosted Services, said practically all employees with a laptop are becoming roaming workers, and more commonly migrating over numerous network environments and geographic locations. This presents IT with the challenge of enforcing usage policies, ensuring the protection of laptops and other endpoints and safeguarding employee communications, Trollope added.
He said hosted endpoint protection minimises the coverage gap experienced by mobile workers on the move. “If you are connected to the Internet, you are protected. To don't need to be connected to the company's network.
“These days, in order to keep up to date with the evolving threats, additional IT resources are required. Customers want endpoint solutions that offer the most recent protection levels with easy set up, no maintenance, and automatic upgrades, said Trollope. “Security SaaS implementations can fully provide these solutions.”
Symantec Hosted Endpoint Protection is designed to safeguard endpoint systems with a single solution managed from a Web-based console. It features advanced protection from the endpoint to the gateway. “It provides anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, intrusion prevention, device and application control.”
In addition, it leverages Ubiquity, security built on community-based reputation, unveiled at Vision yesterday. It can be purchased on its own, or in combination with other Symantec Hosted Services across e-mail, Web and IM, Trollope concluded.
