Hotmail increases storage
Microsoft is following in the footsteps of Google by upping its Windows Live Hotmail storage from 2GB to 5GB, according to Techtree.
A company blog says the changes will be rolled out over the next couple of weeks together with a series of other upgrades.
Significantly, users will now be able to store 10GB of e-mail data for an annual subscription of $14.99. They will be able to forward e-mail from their Hotmail account to a gmail or any other e-mail account.
AT&T uses optical tech
AT&T looks to save businesses the hassle and cost of adding more fibre and storage gear to their networks, reports eWeek.
The company has come up with a way to let businesses tap into a storage-area network using optical technology.
The telecommunications service provider has created storage software interfaces that let businesses efficiently tap into SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) rings, a type of architecture, and corresponding devices that some large businesses and organisations use to allow two or more transmission paths between network nodes to deliver data packets.
Newer Technology presents miniStack
Newer Technology announced the newest addition to its storage line, the miniStack NAS (Network Attached Storage) solution for storing and sharing music, videos, photos, and files at home or at the office, says Computer Technology Review.
miniStack NAS connects to computers either through Ethernet or USB 2.0 ports for PnP storage, and sharing of up to 750GB between up to 20 Windows or Mac users.
It also offers drag and drop shared storage of up to 750GB for home or business, at about six times faster performance, NewerTech said. The solution offers extra security with NDAS (Network Direct Attached Storage) technology.
