HP acquires Phoenix virtualisation products

Phoenix Technologies has said HP will purchase all assets related to its HyperSpace, HyperCore, and Phoenix Flip instant-on and client virtualisation products, writes TechDay.

The deal is said to be worth around $12 million in cash and is “another example of Phoenix implementing its strategic decision to focus on the core systems software market”, it says.

"We are very pleased that HP has agreed to acquire these assets relating to Phoenix's HyperSpace, given HP's rich history of innovation and product differentiation," said Tom Lacey, president and CEO of Phoenix.

VMware scores Gartner top spot

Gartner's research shows VMware is the leader in its Magic Quadrant for companies that offer server virtualisation, states EDL Consulting.

Its x86 server virtualisation has consistently proved to be among the best in the industry in customer satisfaction, overall performance and financial value. x86 servers are the foundation for two major trends in global IT - cloud computing and sever modernisation.

With countless IT executives still apprehensive about outsourcing IT services, it's vitally important that vendors provide products that can assuage those concerns.

IT sector 'must focus on virtualisation'

Virtualisation, cloud computing and social media represent the future of the IT sector, an expert has claimed, says Computeach.

Speaking at the Trustmarque Solutions Customer Event 2010 in York, Gartner research vice-president Philip Dawson highlighted the importance of new technologies and how they could drive IT jobs in the UK and abroad.

Virtualisation is key because it could drive other areas such as green IT, Dawson said, but it must be approached in a pragmatic, structured way.
