Hewlett-Packard has beefed up its management software portfolio by acquiring Trinagy, a California-based supplier of advanced network performance management software for enterprise and service provider customers.
The Trinagy products will become a critical part of HP`s OpenView e-services management software, where they will help customers maximise the performance and availability of business-critical applications and services delivered over the network and turn their IT infrastructure into a primary competitive advantage. This includes the ability to:
* Quickly identify network performance problems;
* Automatically analyse and predict performance issues before they affect services;
* Accurately project and allocate appropriate levels of network capacity needed to develop new services that drive new revenues; and
* Deliver customised reports for in-depth network analysis.
"Today companies must do more than simply monitor their ever-expanding networks - they must turn their networks into business assets, they must be able to link the performance and fault statistics historically and currently to the services and SLAs to proactively manage the impact on the business," said Hannes Lategan, Software Business Manager, Africa and South Africa.
"The addition of Trinagy solutions to the HP OpenView suite means customers can better monitor the performance of their networks. This is essential to managing successful e-services and providing an optimal customer experience."
The acquisition is part of HP`s effort to restructure its powerful software portfolio, a push that includes consolidating its software products into two major lines, discontinuing its OpenMail e-mail software and selling off its Verifone software unit.
"Trinagy`s solutions complement the HP OpenView portfolio by being modular, highly scalable and built on open architectures," said Lategan.
"Winning software companies know that merely managing technology and providing point solutions are yesterday`s strategies," said David Woodall, chief executive officer of Trinagy. "Service providers and enterprises have been demanding the integration of fault and performance management because they recognise that both uptime and performance drive their business success."
Trinagy, a privately owned company founded in 1988, has headquarters in California. It has several large customers in the telecommunications sector, including AT&T, WorldCom, British Telecom, Verizon, Verio, BellSouth, Qwest, EDS, Marriott and IBM.
