To assist retail and manufacturing companies in rapidly launching their online commerce initiatives Hewlett-Packard is to make its 'Enterprise Commerce` solution available next month.
The solution reduces the complexity, time and risk inherent in building and maintaining large scale, personalised business-to-consumer and business-to-business e-commerce sites. And according to Jodi Andrews, channel and marketing manager at HP Enterprise Computing Solutions (ECS) South Africa, sourcing the total solution from a single supplier is a major boon for customers.
"The Enterprise Commerce foundation integrates and tests e-commerce applications, technologies and hardware," explains Andrews.
"To ensure the foundation is designed, implemented and maintained for optimal availability we are offering end-to-end services including consulting, design and integration, mission-critical support and business recovery services. We believe this makes it a first as far as e-commerce solutions are concerned."
Industry speculation suggests that pre-integrated e-commerce solutions such as this are set to play an increasingly important role in many companies` customer relationship management strategies. Andrews agrees, saying the solutions` enhanced customer management and personalisation capabilities should translate into faster time to market.
HP is not going it alone in this initiative though. The company has extended existing partnerships, integrating and testing Web applications from BroadVision and ClearCommerce for the Enterprise Commerce infrastructure.
Mission-Critical Support
Clearly support is critical for a solution of this nature and HP is offering worldwide around-the-clock mission-critical services and support for BroadVision and ClearCommerce e-commerce Web applications.
"The support includes proactive monitoring and management of the environment for the highest levels of availability, manageability, performance and security," explains Andrews.
"HP`s mission-critical services extend support to mixed Unix system and NT platforms, storage, networks, operating systems, databases and e-commerce applications."
HP also offers Enterprise Commerce customers a full range of business-recovery services that tie recovery periods to service level objectives, minimising downtime of e-commerce infrastructures after man-made or natural disasters. "We are also making consulting and integration services available to help customers assess existing and future IT skills requirements, and to support planning and implementation of their e-commerce strategies," adds Andrews.
