HP appoints Axiz to distribute d230 business desktop

Johannesburg, 01 Sep 2003

Axiz has announced that it has been appointed by HP to distribute the complete range of HP`s locally assembled D230 Business Desktops with effect from the 25th of August.

Steven Kramer, business unit manager at Axiz, states, "There are various models in the range all of which are locally assembled by Matomo Technologies on behalf of HP, incorporating a number of locally manufactured components, including Kalliba Proudly South African memory, and locally produced packaging, documentation and manuals."

Bruce Murphy, Kalliba product manager at Axiz, comments, "The Kalliba memory products and the production facility completed extensive qualification and verification procedures for HP`s quality control centre in Scotland, which has vigorously tested and approved the Kalliba memory for use in the HP D230 Business Desktop range. HP has stringent quality control processes and standards and the company commits significant R&D investments to maintaining these standards. Kalliba was able to surpass HP`s minimum failure requirements as well as other quality assurance tests."

Anthony Fitzhenry, CEO of Axiz, adds, "We are very pleased to be able to add this product to our HP range at Axiz, since we fully support the local empowerment and investment initiatives created by the HP D230 Business Desktops. This product range has as much local content - if not more - than many of the so-called local brands, because it uses all of the components that can and are being locally produced. The assembly is well managed and is world class because HP has brought its international manufacturing standards and product systems to the local assembly process and has ensured considerable skills transfer to the local market as a result."

According to Kramer, the key target market for the product range, is companies that use business computing applications and value a simple ordering experience and quick delivery that would prefer to buy a branded product underpinned by HP engineering, services and support organizations. He adds, "The HP D230 Business Desktops are workhorse PCs designed to support business requirements, making them ideal for SMBs, government and educational users, as well as corporate workgroups that need reliable, affordable commercial functionality."

Kramer explains, "We plan to use the D230 Business Desktop to grow the breadth and depth of both HP and Axiz` market share in the SMB, government and education segments. Not only is this range a value purchase from an initial cost perspective, but it also ensures lower costs over the entire product life cycle through consistent and reliable service and performance."

"SMB`s typically buy through reseller organizations that they know and trust. By making a competitively priced, internationally branded product available to these resellers, we enable them to broaden their market presence because it adds an international brand to their arsenal, while giving their customers the comfort of buying affordable peace of mind," Kramer concludes.
