HP assembles 300 000 PCs locally

Johannesburg, 25 Oct 2006

HP`s local assembly partner, Matomo Technologies, has exceeded the 300 000 mark in locally produced HP desktop PCs, HP says.

Midrand-based Matomo Technologies, an empowerment company wholly-owned by Simeka BSG, assembles PCs through HP`s Advanced Local Configuration (ALC) programme.

Stefan Minihold, HP`s ALC programme manager, says the programme`s success comes from flexibility, rapid turnaround time, local support and the ability to meet the production standards of HP factories across the globe.

"Continued investment in our staff`s skills development is crucial to ensure our ongoing success - we have also recently upgraded our production facility to ensure that our quality standards meet and exceed those of production facilities around the world," notes Fabrizio Burba, MD of Matomo Technologies.

Matomo began with one assembly line and 13 employees in 2002, and now features five assembly lines, employing 45 people.

Coming up

The HP Compaq dx7300 Business PC will be available next month, following the release earlier this year of HP`s dx2200 desktop PC, aimed at small and medium enterprises, HP says.

Scheduled for release in early 2007 is the first locally assembled PC aimed at the corporate market, according to a company statement.
