HP brings desktop quality printing to mobile users

Johannesburg, 12 Nov 2003

Tarsus Technologies has announced the local availability of the HPDeskjet 450 series, a range of compact and affordable mobile printers that offers desktop-quality performance.

"Designed for easy connection to notebooks, PDAs and cellphones, the HP Desktop 450 range allows users to print high-quality documents quickly, conveniently and reliably wherever they may be," says Mark Purves, HP IPG product manager at Tarsus Technologies.

"The product range also offers photo quality printing at up to 4800 X 1200 optimised dpi on premium photo media, and print speeds of up to 9 pages per minute (ppm) in black, and 8ppm in colour in fast mode."

Fitted with the latest HP Photoret IV technology, the 450 is designed to be robust and is supported by a protective, top-cover paper tray that can withstand the punishment of travelling. Customers have the choice of the optional photo cartridge, which produces true-to-life prints in six-ink colour.

"Users can now choose from a wide variety of wireless connectivity options for seamless printing from their mobile devices," adds Purves. "These include Windows notebooks and Macintosh PowerBook, as well as the Pocket PC, Palm OS and Win CE handheld devices. The Deskjet 450 can also print directly from a digital camera without cables or a PC."

Connectivity options include FastIR, CompactFlash, and in a model to be launched locally in November, Bluetooth. Wired connectivity options include USB and parallel ports.

The printer family needs little end-user intervention, thanks to its dual-carriage, high-capacity print system with separate black and tri-colour cartridges. The long lasting cartridges print up to 450 pages black and 400 pages colour.

An optional lithium-ion battery (standard with the 450cbi) provides wireless power supply lasting for up to 350 pages, allowing end-users to be even more efficient and productive while on the road.

Concludes Purves: "The HP Deskjet 450 allows end-users to maintain desktop efficiency and productivity even when they`re on the move. It is an affordable offering for users who need to print documents when they are out of the office."
