HP bullish on consulting, services

Johannesburg, 29 Apr 2010

With the convergence of technology and business, IT companies have evolved from infrastructure providers to enablers of innovation and business success. Technology's aim has shifted to delivering strategic services to drive business results.

This is according to Johan Deschuyffeleer, VP of Technology Services, EMEA at HP, who addressed HP's annual Technology@work event, in Frankfurt, this week.

“HP's services strategy is clear. We want to support all our customers, from SMEs to enterprises, who have different challenges, but - at the end of the day - will leverage the same technologies, and look for the same results. They need to put the knowledge and skills behind the technologies.”

He noted that clients look to HP to help them manage and transform their technology environments to deliver improved business outcomes. “Expanding our service capabilities and capacity makes our value proposition even stronger, and through the acquisition of EDS, added magnitude, particularly for HP's full outsourcing business.

“EDS is now fully integrated into the HP business,” he said. Deschuyffeleer added that no future services acquisitions are planned, but the company aims to grow its services business organically, and leverage the knowledge gained by the acquisition.

“Offering hardware, software and services comes from customer demand. Most of HP's clients want a single point of contact, from infrastructure to the application layer.”

Deschuyffeleer said the EMEA region is very important to HP's services business. “We have been servicing customers in the region for at least 15 years. It's a large market for us. There are different levels of maturity across EMEA. It is necessary for HP to work far more closely with its here, as it deals with many different cultures and languages.

“There is an increasing pressure on our clients to deliver more with less,” he concluded. “Our expanded coverage has created more touch points for clients, and HP will focus on offering complete solutions to continue leading in enterprise computing.”
