Hewlett‑Packard has announced the Design Challenge 2000 competition to showcase the design technology used in Formula One racing.
The competition, now entering its third year, is extending outside of Europe for the first time. This competition is open to all types of design engineers worldwide.
The competition is part of HP`s technological sponsorship of the Jaguar Racing team in the highly competitive world of Formula One motorsport.
This year`s Design Challenge has been divided into two sections. The first problem category, mechanical design, focuses on the gearbox selector mechanism. The second problem category, composite design, focuses on rear wing assembly.
The judging panel will be chaired by Gary Anderson, technical director, Jaguar Racing. The prizes range from HP and Jaguar Formula One merchandise to VIP tickets to attend a Grand Prix event.
Designers can register for the Design Challenge via a dedicated Web site (www.hp.com/go/HPDesign_Challenge). Upon registering, designers will be able to access full details on the competition, which encourages innovation and opens design technology in Formula One to a wider audience of designers.
