HP dislodges Kodak in Wal-Mart
Hewlett-Packard is replacing photo kiosks owned by rival printer Kodak in Wal-Mart stores, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Since 2009, the retail giant has been installing HP 'Prints in Minutes' photo booths, which customers use to make photo prints from digital cameras.
The HP kiosk roll-out will dislodge existing photo booths made by Kodak, which has provided its kiosks to Wal-Mart since at least 2006. Wal-Mart has 8 416 retail units under various brand names in 15 countries. "These kiosks stay installed for nine or 10 years," says HP chief executive Mark Hurd.
Kodak unveils document capture scanner
Kodak has released its i4000 series scanners, which it says allows companies to cost-effectively automate document capture and management, according to Earth Times.
The capture platform incorporates one-touch scanning, software capabilities and simplified integration within new or existing document management processes to offer an information management solution.
Kodak's 'Smart Touch' functionality allows documents to be sent to common destinations including e-mail, desktop applications, shared file locations and Microsoft SharePoint Server.
Xerox MFPs streamline workflow
Xerox has unveiled the WorkCentre 7700 series, colour multifunction printers (MFPs) for offices claimed to cut 'paperwork' processes, states WhatTheyThink.
The MFPs handle general office documents to high-volume colour print jobs. They also manage multiple printing, copying, scanning and faxing tasks simultaneously. The WorkCentre 7700 series comes equipped with Xerox's Extensible Interface Platform, used to create customised workflow applications.
"These new MFPs can be customised to meet the specific workflow needs of individual users and workgroups - helping our customers get work done quicker than ever,” says Rick Dastin, president of the Global Product Delivery Group at Xerox.
