In true South African style, the HP RSA Enterprise Business team took an interesting new look at a South African version of what can only be called a “hands-on mobile solution”.
After an extensive three-day off-site conference at Mount Grace, the HP Enterprise Business team blew off some steam by “building a future for South Africa”.
A company called Elephants in Main Street developed a very clever and heartfelt concept called Project Wendy, whereby participants have the pleasure of putting together a 2.5m x 3m wooden Wendy House for previously disadvantaged or underprivileged people in a nearby community.
HP EB (Enterprise Business) jumped at the opportunity to get involved in this initiative, and on the last day of the off-site conference at Mount Grace, they tackled the challenge presented to them.
Over 100 HP specialists worked together to build five Wendy Houses.
HP is not only about resolving customer challenges and reducing cost, but also about giving back to the community and country at large. HP has embarked on many projects across the world, including providing technology towards fighting Aids, supporting groups like mothers2mothers and other poverty stricken communities. “This project was something HP believes in, as it gives hope to our young generation,” said Manoj Bhoola, ESSN Country Manager. Bhoola went on to say that he hoped many of these children would one day join HP and continue this good work that has been started.
The 2.5m x 3m structures were donated to Merilyn Pick, Principal of Girls and Boys Town, Magaliesburg. The HP team was assured that these Wendy Houses would be used as computer rooms in the near future.
“The generosity of a few corporate individuals, to add a bit of colour and much needed structural space to the schools, is made all the more rewarding when you actually see them doing the hard work while having fun - thank you HP,” said Pick.
It just goes to show how we can compare what “underprivileged” children of today have access to versus the potential of today's technology... and tomorrow's future.
