HP launches document capture range to streamline workflows across SMEs, enterprises

With the printed word maintaining its presence across enterprises and SMEs, HP's new range of scanners ensures that paper is no barrier to efficiency and security within the workflow.

Johannesburg, 24 Apr 2009

HP has announced a range of document capture devices designed to streamline workflows and seamlessly integrate printed materials into the business process.

The scanners, which cover both SME and enterprise markets, include a range of management and security software to enable organisations to reduce costs and automate paper-based processes, which would alternatively be completed manually.

Derrick Kupa, sales manager for enterprise strategy at HP IPG in South Africa, explains that the printed and paper-based element remains a small, but critical part of the business workflow.

“Despite the increasing volumes of digital content being generated by businesses, end-users - whether customers or employees - continue to rely on the printed word to analyse, review and make decisions,” says Kupa.

“HP's new range of scanners is designed to capture paper-based content and incorporate into an automated workflow, further enhancing its level of security, management and efficiency,” says Kupa.

According to analysts Quocirca, digital communication has actually led to a rise in printed content [1]. HP's own research [2] into the reliance on paper-based material within the workplace also affirms its continued presence within the business process. According to the research, despite the increasing ubiquity of digital content, “classic” tools as the written and printed word are, in fact, just as important for planning and making decisions in the workplace.

HP's new range of scanners includes the following:

HP Scanjet N6350 Networked Flatbed Document Scanner [3]

Designed for small work teams without dedicated IT resources, the HP Scanjet N6350 Networked Flatbed Document Scanner is a simple-to-use, versatile general office scanner with integrated networking for multiple users to easily share and send digital files to e-mail or a network folder. With optional PIN security, users can protect and manage scanner access and save-to locations on the network.

HP Scanjet 5000 Sheet-feed Scanner [4]

With fast document scanning speeds and improved paper handling capabilities, the HP Scanjet 5000 Sheet-feed Scanner effortlessly captures a variety of documents, including legal-size documents, business cards, ID cards and embossed cards. It is ideal for dynamic office environments offering advanced paper handling and document capture features, and is able to scan stacks of mixed length paper and archive information from business documents, ID and embossed cards. It can also convert and manage incoming mail.

HP Scanjet 7000n Document Capture Workstation [6]

Designed to improve and simplify document workflows, the HP Scanjet Enterprise 7000n Document Capture Workstation features robust security capabilities that can quickly and safely convert a variety of privileged hard copy documents, such as loan applications, invoices and other records, into electronic workflows.
