Hewlett-Packard has launched its latest e-service, e-utilica, designed to deliver an instant solution to application service providers (ASPs).
E-utilica comprises a compact administration rack, a computing rack, and customisable software and security policies.
E-utilica`s administration and compute racks come in a two metre form factor. The former delivers high-level security, management and VPN administration functions; the latter high performance, capacity and headroom, sourcing power from HP`s new J6000 compute farm (up to 19 HP J6000 CPUs, 304GB of memory and 38 PA-8600 processors running at 552MHz).
The e-service can be integrated within the firewall of an enterprise`s corporate intranet to distribute applications to remote locations when needed. Remote e-utilica nodes can be started to power additional capacity and application delivery as needed. Similarly, e-utilica can be used to link suppliers and partners over a secure VPN platform.
"An ASP should provide access to compute-intensive applications anytime, anywhere, on a pay-per-use basis, and meet its customers` demands at peak periods," says Kevin Barnard, business development manager at HP Enterprise Computing Solutions South Africa. "With e-utilica, we are aiming to assure these providers, and their customers, of a service that is secure and continuous, that provides flexible billing, and offers room for expansion."
For design engineers, partners and suppliers around the globe, e-utilica can be used to create a real time collaborative environment. "Using e-utilica, design engineers around the globe can collaborate simultaneously on projects such as circuit board or chip design," notes Barnard.
"Speeding time to market is the major challenge faced by technical designers in the heated Internet economy; companies are therefore seeking ways to improve their design and operational processes to compete more effectively."
