Hewlett-Packard has opened the doors of its Competency Centre to dealers after six months of planning and with more than R1 million spent on the one-room facility. The centre will serve as a demo facility and training venue for dealers and employees.
"We would like this to become the home-base for our entire dealer network," says Thierry Boulanger, PC product manager.
HP says the centre will be able to duplicate about 90% of all the available Intel-based HP solutions, and will serve as a product demonstration area. All the products, including mobile systems, printers, scanners and high-end workstations, are networked in a live environment.
"And this is not only for the large dealers," says Boulanger. "The small to medium dealers can bring customers here to demo the products they don`t have on display themselves."
HP plans to use the investment to enlarge market share in the non-printer arena. "We will be giving vendors selling printers as part of a mixed-vendor solution access to our complete range and product knowledge."
Incentives for dealers who complete training at the centre will include flexible pricing and direct sales support.
A similar centre will be opened in Cape Town during April and another is planned for Durban.
