HP, Polycom expand alliance
HP plans to sell Polycom's voice and video technologies, and partner with the video conferencing stalwart on its go-to-market strategy, reports Channel Web.
At the same time, HP has cut ties with Polycom's rival Tandberg, with which it had a similar sales agreement for several years. Tandberg is in the process of being acquired by HP rival Cisco.
Bob Hagerty, Polycom CEO, says: "We are excited to expand our relationship with HP to leverage the synergies with other Polycom Open Collaboration Network partners to deliver seamlessly interoperable unified communications solutions and services to customers."
Qantas gets VOIP
Australia's largest airline Qantas is deploying Cisco voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) technologies to its 18 000 users, says IT Wire.
It's the second big deal for Cisco in Australia's airline sector in the past few months.
David Hall, Qantas executive manager of corporate services and technology, says the move is part of the airline's focus on enhancing communication effectiveness across its workforce to improve efficiency.
Bangladesh clamps down on ISPs
The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has shut down 18 Internet service providers (ISPs) for illegally running VOIP services, states The New Nation.
IT companies in Bangladesh have complained of losing large amounts of revenue due to the sudden shutdown.
BTRC sources claim ISPs rolling out VOIP services have been accused of evading money owed to the government.
