HP provides Windows 2000 support options

Johannesburg, 03 Feb 2000

Hewlett-Packard South Africa has confirmed local and support options to help customers migrate to the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server operating system. This follows the company`s international announcement.

Kevin Ferreira, marketing manager for services at HP Enterprise Computing Solutions South Africa, says HP provides customers with a complete set of services for planning, designing, implementing and maintaining Microsoft technology across the enterprise.

"Clearly we`re tapping into our expertise in design, deployment and support of mission-critical environments, which is something Windows 2000 promises to offer.

"Our global estimates suggest that approximately 40% of medium to large enterprises will deploy Windows 2000 during this year."

With Windows 2000 expected to be a key platform for mission-critical solutions, HP has expanded its High Availability Observatory (HAO) and Critical Systems Support service to cover Windows 2000.

"HP HAO is a suite of technologies, tools and processes that equips us to deliver proactive services and reactive support," explains Ferreira. "This includes immediate response and a commitment to repair hardware in a maximum of six hours."

HP`s service offerings also cover consulting, services, exchange services, licence management and IT training.

By the time the operating system is launched on 16 February, HP will be able to provide training for Windows 2000, deliver instruction via the Web and through dedicated education centres worldwide. "Customers can also choose from an array of Microsoft training and education services at HP`s online IT resource centre," adds Ferreira.

HP`s consulting operation will provide a full suite of services for Windows 2000. These include readiness assessment, active directory planning and design, server and storage consolidation, proof-of-concept testing, and Windows 2000 migration planning and implementation.

"The HP services are designed to reduce customers` risk as they migrate to Windows 2000, facilitate on-time and on-budget delivery of enterprise-class solutions for Windows 2000, and provide a more rapid return on investment," concludes Ferreira.
