HP releases new virtual array

Johannesburg, 29 Feb 2008

HP SA last night introduced the HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA 4400).

According to Yesh Surjoodeen, HP business development manager, StorageWorks division, the EVA 4400 is a virtual storage disk array, specifically designed for mid-size businesses, that is easy to manage.

The product is based on the company's previous EVA 4100/6100/8100 technology, but completely built from the ground up, with solution blocks that provide integration with key applications, he says. It is also much easier and quicker to install and configure, he notes.

"You get enterprise-class availability and performance that is up to five times easier to manage than traditional arrays with a lower total cost of ownership at an aggressive price that is approximately 20% more affordable than higher end systems."

The EVA4400 has key virtualisation features previously available only on high-end arrays, but now at a price designed for midsize businesses, the company says.

It features a dual-redundant hardware architecture that supports local and remote replication software, which Surjoodeen notes, eliminates single points of failure and helps ensure maximum uptime.

Simple management and resource solutions are also available with the EVA4400 and include pre-tested "blueprints" that combine the right server, storage and application components to reduce time and effort by both customers and channel partners. The solutions enable integration with the most popular midsize business applications, including Microsoft Exchange, SQL, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Oracle E-Business Suite, SAP, VMware and HP PolyServe Scalable NAS, the company said in a statement announcing the launch.

The EVA 4400 is immediately available with a starting price of R150 000.
