Hewlett-Packard and SAP have stepped up their partnership activities with the international (and soon local) launch of services and technology solutions designed to simplify management of e-commerce and internet activities.
The services, which are set to impact the SA market in the coming months, include a 'fast-start` consulting and implementation programme for mySAP.com - SAP`s turnkey solution that allows current SAP R/3 customers to emerge from their company firewalls and engage an e-commerce environment.
The news is strategic for vendor and customer alike. SAP has selected HP as one of its leading implementation vendors for the mySAP.com Starter Pack. And both companies have developed a comprehensive suite of services for technical implementation at customer sites worldwide.
"HP Services consultants and engineers with special e-commerce expertise will help customers protect their existing investments by implementing a complete mySAP.com e-commerce environment without having to upgrade to SAP R/3 4.6," says Nicolas Leblanc, new business/solutions sales manager at HP Enterprise Computing Solutions (ECS) South Africa.
Nicole Anderson, technology alliance manager at SAP Southern Africa, believes the time is right for more mySAP.com solutions - and for an extended partnership with HP.
"We expect the majority of our 23 000 R/3 customers to move to mySAP.com in the near future," she says. "With HP as our principal deployment partner for the mySAP.com Starter Pack, mutual customers stand to benefit from a comprehensive technology and services portfolio."
Implementation services and technology solutions
An international implementation programme for mySAP.com Workplace Server was has also been revealed; it aims to reduce standard installation time from weeks to days.
"HP is the first in the market to provide a Unix implementation of a ready-to-run workplace solution, greatly simplifying the technical installation of mySAP.com Workplace, SAP`s enterprise portal solution," says Leblanc.
The HP-SAP Ready-to-Run Workplace Server and R/3 programmes will be available on HP-UX in South Africa in the coming months.
To manage the complete SAP mission-critical and business-to-business environment, HP has also come to market with an advanced version of its OpenView VantagePoint Smart Plug-In for SAP R/3. The intention is to provide an integrated solution for managing SAP R/3 and mySAP.com environments from end to end.
"HP OpenView enables SAP R/3 customers to control an entire Internet-based workplace environment by showing the business impact of failures and helping them to act quickly and minimise disruption," says Gary de Menezes, the software business manager: Middle East and southern Africa, at Hewlett-Packard.
"HP OpenView also supports SAP Business Warehouse and Internet Transaction Server and provides sophisticated performance management metrics, additional control of usage, subsystems and network bandwidth along with improved reporting facilities."
